Further, our cover story is full of touching true instances of compassion and mercy. Why not learn from the best among us, rather than simply lament the worst the media often highlight?

Among such best persons was a twenty-one-year-old called Sophie, whom most young Germans in the 1950s voted as the most admired German. What gave her and her brother Hans the courage to confront Nazi brutality, when most dared not speak?
